The weekend series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, concluded with the Dodgers winning in 12 innings.

In an extra inning battle between the Los Angeles and San Diego which seen 37 players used by both teams (19 by Los Angeles and 18 by San Diego), Los Angeles prevailed, 4-2. Adrian Gonzalez was the big star for the Dodgers in this game, he had 3 RBI’s in the victory, including a two-run single to center field, with two outs, to score Alberto Callaspo for the winning run. Gonzalez has played well against his former team this season, batting over .390, with six homers.

San Diego starter James Shields (7-0) pitched well, he went seven innings, only allowing one earned and striking out six, for a no-decision. Dodgers starter Mike Bolsinger only lasted 4-2/3 innings but he ran into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Justin Upton singled to center, scoring James Shields and Will Venable. Rookie Joc Pederson made some amazing catches in center field for the Dodgers, including an overhead catch, crashing into the wall and taking an extra base hit from Justin Upton. The catch prevented the two runners from scoring the winning run, in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Los Angeles (37-26), will now take on the Texas Rangers (33-30) in Arlington Texas for an inter-league matchup. The Dodgers will send starter Carlos Frias (4-3, 3.86 ERA),to the hill, he will face Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo (5-6, 3.45 ERA). The San Diego Padres will be at home, to open a series with the Oakland A’s. Padres starter Tyson Ross (3-6, 3.81 ERA) will be opposed by Jesse Hahn (3-6, 3.84 ERA). The Dodgers still lead the National League West by 3.5 games over the San Francisco Giants and 6 games over the third place Padres.
