Recap: Dodgers 9, Rockies 5 – Don’t Jump to Conclusions

Is it time to panic about Clayton Kershaw? No.

Am I at least a little concerned? Yes.

Has he pitched like that before and got out of it? Oh yeah.

Will he do it again? Definitely.

So while the Dodgers Nation is up in arms over the early “slump” of Clayton Kershaw, those of us who have watched him for years know that two of his Cy Young years started similarly and Kershaw usually pitches his best going into the second half of the season, so even though he gave up 5 runs in the 4th inning and didn’t make it out the 6th, and surrendered 4 walks, he struck out 5 and at least gave his team a chance to win.

Luckily, Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa couldn’t find the strike zone either and it’s possible the cold has an effect on both pitchers. At one point De La Rosa walked 6 of the 7 Dodger players he saw, even walking in a run, so maybe it’s not all on the pitchers.

The Dodgers bullpen was great again, Pedro Baez, Adam Liberatore and Yimi Garcia shut down the Rockies the rest of the way.

Adrian Gonzalez continued to hit like he did when he was a Padre and his first year as a Red Sox, going 2-4, with two doubles and 4 RBI’s, making a strong, strong case to be in this years All Star game.

After A-Gon helped to tie the game in the 5th, it stayed tied until the 8th when Justin Turner pinch hit for Pedro Baez and took a pitch out to right center field that was definitely aided by the Denver air, giving them a 7-5 lead and after a Howie Kendrick single and Troy Tulowitzki error, the Dodgers took a 9-5 lead and that was our final score.

Joc Pederson didn’t hit a home run, (Boo!) but he did walk 3 times, score 2 times and show why he’s good as a lead off batter, he didn’t need to get hits or home runs to be effective.

Jimmy Rollins, in what I hope will be the start of his turn around went 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

All in all it was a good game, the Dodgers won, making it 8 straight games that the Dodgers have beaten the Rockies and after all this crazy weather, it’s a great time to head home back to sunny California for a 3 game series against the Marlins and four more against the Rockies.
