Recap: Dodgers 7, Angels 5 – Wild Win

12 position players, 7 pitches for the Dodgers

12 position players, 9 pitchers for the Angels

It was a crazy night with wild pitches, high choppers off the plate, Joc Pederson getting 3 hits without hitting one out of the ballpark, and even Zack Greinke giving up two home runs.

Both managers obviously felt the urgency to win this game. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are fighting for their playoff life with every game and the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to put some distance between them and the San Francisco  Giants, stay ahead of the New York Mets for home field in the Divisional Series and try to get ahead of the Chicago Cubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates and maybe even the St. Louis Cardinals for home field in the NL Championship Series.

After all the craziness was over, in a game which lasted 3 hours and 52 minutes, Jim Johnson, Chris Hatcher and Kenley Jansen shut down the Angels for the final 2 and a third innings to pick up their 79th win and give the Angels their 68th win.

The Dodgers offense which had been no-hit twice in 9 games, got 16 hits, left 30 men on base and were 7 for 22 with runners in scoring position, a .318 average not bad by any standards but I still feel like there were a lot of runs left on the board.

Corey Seager continued to make Dodger fans and in general baseball fans fall in love with him, he got 1 hit, 2 walks and 2 runs and also made this play:

That was fun. Jimmy Rollins, I love you man but yeah, i hate that you’re hurt but I won’t weep if Corey takes shortstop for the rest of the season.

Notable: Scott Van Slyke collected 4 hits and 4 RBI’s, 3 of them were on 2 infield hits, one that bounced off of the pitcher’s glove and got past the shortstop and the other went high off of the plate and would’ve been a tough play for Goliath to handle scoring the final run for the Dodgers. Justin Ruggiano, pinch hitting for Andre Ethier in the 5th inning against the left hander that had just been brought in by Mike Scioscia, double on the very first pitch and brought in two and as I said earlier, Joc Pederson collected 3 hits, 1 walk and only one strikeout, he might’ve had a couple RBI’s if Scott Van Slyke hadn’t stolen them all.

The win brings the Dodgers to 79-58 and takes the Angels down to 69-68.

Tomorrow the Dodgers bring out Clayton Kershaw, (12-6, 2.18) against former Dodger (for about an hour or so) Andrew Heaney (6-2, 3.18)
