Recap: Dodgers 5, Cardinals 1 – Welcome Back Yaz
- Updated: May 30, 2015
Today, the Dodgers finally put some runs on the board, scoring 4 in the 6th, 3 of them coming off a 3 run home-run by Yasmani Grandal that sent ace Cardinals starter and Dodgers pariah Michael Wacha to the showers, eliciting whoops and hollers all over Los Angeles.
Something you won’t be able to cull from the box score but is every bit as important to that big 6th was the 12 pitch at-bat by Adrian Gonzalez, 9 of them with 2 strikes, 7 of them on a 3-2 count that resulted in him getting hit by the pitch, this put Justin Turner at third and Adrian on 1st. Next up was Howie Kendrick and after he missed a pinch right down the middle, he put the next pitch into right field to score Turner and put the pressure on Wacha, a foul ball and 3 balls later, Wacha left one over the plate and Yaz didn’t miss it, hitting it out into deep left center field and Wacha was done.
In other news, Carlos Frias got his first hit, a bunt, and looked like he never wanted to get off the bases and pitched a great game, going 7 innings and only giving up one unearned run which was huge for him after the 3 innings 10 run outing against San Diego.
Jimmy Rollins finally usurped that #2 spot in the line up and look, the Dodgers scored runs!
Yimi Garcia struck out 2 in the 8th and Adam Liberatore struck out 3 in the bottom of the 9th to end it.
I like the look of this line up with Turner second, Gonzalez back 3rd, Kendrick 4th, then Ethier and Grandal. Then again, as long as Rollins isn’t 2nd all should be good right? Sorry Jimmy, love ya but you just haven’t done it and we need to score some runs.
This was only the Dodgers 8th win on the road, bringing them to 8-12, and it’s always good to beat the Cardinals and it helps us to keep pace with the San Francisco Giants who are virtually tied with us at the top of the NL West and ahead of the team by percentage points.
Tomorrow Brett Anderson goes at 11:15 AM against Carlos Martinez and let’s hope it doesn’t rain again.
