Clayton Kershaw went seven innings allowing just one run, and the Dodgers got a late two-run home run from Scott Schebler to pull away from the Colorado Rockies in a 4-1 win on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Kershaw was phenomenal on Monday, his only blemish coming in the top of the first inning when DJ LeMahieu — who reached base on a walk — came around to third on a double from Nolan Arenado and scored on an RBI groundout by Carlos Gonzalez.
Other than that, the Rockies couldn’t muster anything off Kershaw (just two more hits off him in six more innings) or the bullpen (two hits and no walks against three strikeouts over the final two innings of the game) as the Dodgers coasted to victory against the NL West’s last place team.
Kershaw’s final line ran to 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, and he won again, lowering his ERA and further setting him up for a postseason run that the Dodgers are hoping is one for the ages.
Behind him, the bats were solid enough against the Rockies’ top pitching prospect, Jon Gray, who threw the ball very well for four-plus innings before eventually being pulled in the fifth.
The Dodgers scored their only early runs on a sacrifice fly from Yasmani Grandal, and then on a double from Justin Turner. Later in the game, Scott Schebler clubbed a two-run home run off Rockies’ reliever Miguel Castro to give Los Angeles some insurance against the Rox.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday night, at 7:10 pm PT. Brett Anderson goes for the Dodgers against his former club, and he will be opposed by Rockies’ left-hander Chris Rusin.
