RECAP: Dodgers 4, Cubs 0

The Los Angeles Dodgers scored four runs off Chicago Cubs’ starter Jon Lester thanks to a 2-RBI double from Howie Kendrick and timely early hits by Enrique Hernandez and Jimmy Rollins were good enough for starter Carlos Frias to win 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.

The Dodgers opened up early with two first-inning runs on Kendrick’s double, scoring Rollins and Justin Turner to make it a 2-0 game after the top of the first inning.

The Dodgers plated two more runs in the second inning after Hernandez tripled home Carlos Frias, and Rollins’ single scored Hernandez, and before the Cubs had taken their second at-bat, the Dodgers were up four runs and cruising to victory.

The Cubs never scored in the game but they did threaten a fair amount, leaving eight runners on base. Despited the threats, they were held in check for the first five innings by Frias, who allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out five hitters.

The Dodgers bullpen had four relievers — Joel Peralta, J.P. Howell, Yimi Garcia and Kenley Jansen — each throw scoreless innings, combining to allow just one hit while striking out three Cubs’ batters.

With the win, the Dodgers retain their lead in the NL West and are now 41-33, continuing their road trip over the weekend in Miami.
