RECAP: Dodgers 3 Nationals 0

Clayton Kershaw was masterful for eight innings, and the Los Angeles Dodgers did just enough against a tough starting pitcher in Jordan Zimmermann, defeating the Washington Nationals 3-0 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers kicked off the scoring — well, what little there was of it — with a third inning run that came off the bat of Carl Crawford. Hitting against Jordan Zimmermann, Crawford slugged an RBI single to score Joc Pederson and give the Dodgers a lead that would hold up for a long time.

The lead held only because of Kershaw, whom the Nationals never figured out during an especially strong start by the lefty ace.

Zimmermann was equally phenomenal, allowing just the run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine in seven innings of work for the Nationals, only to leave the game having been outdueled by Kershaw on this night.

The Dodgers added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Andre Ethier doubled home Pederson, and then scored himself on a throwing error, making it a 3-0 game off Nats’ reliever Drew Storen.

Kershaw was finished after eight innings of work, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out eight Nationals to continue his overall dominance this season. Kenley Jansen nailed down the save for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers will next face the Cincinnati Reds for four games, beginning Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.
