Recap: Dodgers 2, Phillies 6 – That Just Happened
- Updated: August 4, 2015
After Mat Latos helped to beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim over the weekend I was encouraged that Alex Wood would pitch well as well, especially against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Well Alex Wood did pitch well, he went 6 innings only giving up 1 run, and the Dodgers were tied 1-1, and he’d struck out 8, looking good. Then in the 7th it all fell apart, a leadoff single, followed by a sac hit to get the runner to second and an intentional walk put runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out, this should’ve been easy, ground ball pitcher, men on 1st and 2nd, okay let’s do this. Uh…what?
This pitch didn't go exactly where Dodgers starter Alex Wood wanted it http://t.co/Tf3lxb3d8x pic.twitter.com/IIjvEm3n63

After that balk, men to 2nd and 3rd with still 1 out so the next batter is intentionally walked, and in comes Peralta, and the collective sigh of Dodger fans is heard across the nation and of course all those negative vibes caused Joel Peralta to hang an 81 mph curve ball over the plate to rookie Maikel Franco and now the Phillies are up 5-1 and pretty much that was the game.
So, good news. Wood did pitch well, 4 earned runs notwithstanding, two of them were intentional walks and 3 of them were attributed to him because of Peralta’s hanging curve, so while he only gets one earned one attributed to his count, Wood gets 3, doesn’t seem fair but that’s baseball.
Joc Pederson walked for the first time since, July 18th against the Nationals and after that he collected two more and a strikeout (of course). Be nice if he swung but I’ll take it.
Jimmy Rollins hit lead off against, something Dodger fans groaned about before the game but hey, he collected two hits, not his fault the line up behind him didn’t drive him in, he did his job.
Adrian Gonzalez didn’t look good with runners in scoring position tonight, he had a chance to put his team up 3-1 with a well-timed single but he struck out, something that’s uncustomary for him to do with men on base, he’s one of the best in that situation.
So that’s that, let’s not forget the team just won 4 straight and swept the Angels, one game does not a season make and they can easily hit another short streak, baseball is all about winning the series.
So tomorrow we got Brett Anderson (5-6, 3.14 ERA) against former Dodger Aaron Harang (5-11, 3.97 ERA) at 4:05PST, see you there.
