Recap: Dodgers 1, Rockies 7 – Bullpen Gets Bullied Again

Zack Greinke was great again, and for once the offense was not.

Baseball is funny, you go into a game, see that the current best pitcher in the National League is going up against Jorge De La Rosa, he of a 9.56 ERA and you think “easy win” right? Well, no because baseball is random and a guy can pitch well when you don’t expect him to. At the same time Greinke was great as well, going 6 innings and only giving up one run, a first inning home run to Carlos Gonzalez, who now has 2 in this series against the Dodgers, both to give the Rockies the lead, seems this guy is going to be a pain this year, unless he’s not.

The game went as pitching duels go, up until the 7th inning when Zack Greinke was replaced with Sergio Santos after Joc Pederson pinch hit for him. Santos started off well, getting a ground out to third, but after a walk to catcher Michael McKenryDaniel Descalso hit a two run home run, giving him 5 RBI’s in two games against the Dodgers and seemingly trying to make Dodger fans hate him as well as Carlos Gonzalez.

Alas, Sergio Santos wasn’t done, and this was a very weird inning. First, Santos struck out DJ LeMahieu but the ball got past AJ Ellis for a wild pitch, then after another wild pitch moved LeMahieu to second, Gonzalez singled to left scoring a run, then to make things more fun, Santos gave up another home run, this time to Nolan Arenado, and somehow he calmed down enough to strike out the last 3 batters, giving the Dodgers two pitches to have struck out 4 batters in an inning in consecutive days, fun! Not fun, that put the game out of reach because by the end of all that mess, the score was 6-0 and fans were leaving to beat the Los Angeles traffic home.

That loss left the Dodgers 23-13 but still on top of the National League West.

Before this series, the Dodgers had tied their previous record of 11 straight series win and were looking good to get their 12th but with this loss, all the Dodgers can do is tie this 4 game series, Mike Bolsinger (1-0, 1.59 ERA) against Kyle Kendrick (1-4, 7.56) they should win but I felt the same before this game and you know, “baseball” it’s just funny.
