Recap: Dodgers 1, Arizona 0 – That Was Fun?

Dodgers win 1-0 in a 13 inning “thriller,” woo free baseball!

Oh, my bad then. Well um, good win Dodgers!

Ok so let’s see. Brett Anderson, pitched 6 great innings, gave up no runsthrowing 86 pitches and if the Dodgers would’ve lost then Don Mattingly would’ve gotten grilled for pulling him but we won and Don used 7 different pitches, who would go on to throw 7 shutout innings, striking out 9 and only allowing 5 base runners, two of which were credited to J.P. Howell who wanted to give us all a heart attack in the top of the 13th but hey he got the win so, good for you Howell.

Joc Pederson went 0-5 with 3 strikeouts proving he’s human, Andre Ethier, God bless him, got on base 3 times, and is now putting up numbers that are worth the $18 million he’s being paid this year.

Jimmy Rollins went hitless and struck out 3 times, going deeper into a slump, he is now hitting .176 on the season. I want to say D Matts will move him down in the order but from the past where I’ve seen Don put a guy, no let’s quantify that, a veteran, that’s slumping in the two hole to get him more at-bats and “work it out” so don’t expect it anytime soon. If he does it in the next series, I will be shocked, I tell you shocked! I also hate to say it but Dre should be second but Donnie won’t do it, two lefties back to back n all. Yeah, I can’t see anyone moving up into that two spot anytime soon, you’re stuck with Rollins yucking it up at the top of the order until he does something good or he’s benched but that won’t happen either!

Speaking of the brilliance of Don Mattingly, if it as his intention to recreate Game 4 of the 2013 National League Division Series against the Braves by asking him to bunt (which he’s clearly bat at) and hope for jazz hands then it clearly backfired. Uribe had a better chance of advancing the runner by swinging than bunting, better to ask him to hit a fly ball into the outfield and get the man to third than to ask him to bunt (clearly). Luckily that didn’t come back to nip us in the bud, other than having to slog through 3 more innings of relief with Paco Rodriguez, Juan Nicasio and J.P. Howell.

The game ended on a happy note though, Yasmani Grandal who until this series with the Diamondbacks had been struggling to get hits and hadn’t hit home-run since April 10th, hit a walk off home run in the 13th and let the fans go home and those of us at home to eat dinner.

The Dodgers are now 2-2 in extra inning games, 16-8 on the season, 1st in the National League West, 2nd best record in the National League, 4th best in the Major Leagues and have won 4 straight.

Next series, we play the Milwaukee Brewers who are 7-18 but have won 2 straight. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Carlos Frias are scheduled to start in the three games series. I’m kind of spoiled now and I expect another sweep, go blue.

Actually, the Brewers series is four games, with a day game on Thursday.

But that takes time and effort, which translates to money.
