The San Diego Padres start a weekend series with the Miami Marlins with a 8-3 victory.
After a rain soaked victory in New York, the Padres traveled down to sunny Miami, for a three game series with the Miami Marlins and take the first game.
The Marlins jumped out to an early 2 run lead, on a two run homer by Marlins center fielder Christian Yelich. The Padres got on the board in the top of the third inning, on a single by Yangervis Solarte, that scored starter Ian Kennedy and the team pulled to within a run.
San Diego managed to get even and take the lead on two separate scoring play. The big play was the sacrifice fly, off the bat of Alexi Amarista, that scored Derek Norris, to get the game tied.
Miami tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, on a homer by Derek Dietrick, who took Craig Kimbrel deep and a blown save opportunity. The Padres came up with five big runs in the top of the eleventh inning, capped off by a bases loaded walk, which proved to be the game winner.
Ian Kennedy,(6-9), had a very good game, he managed to complete seven strong innings, on 100 pitches, striking out 5, on four hits, and the only mistake was the two run homer. Brandon Maurer,(7-3), got the win in relief and A.J. Ramos,(0-3), took the loss for the Marlins.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow in game two of the three game set. The Padres,(50-53), will send Odrisamer Despaigne,(4-7, 4.76 ERA), to the mound, as the team will be seeking their fourth straight win. Miami,(42-61), will counter with Jose Urena,(1-4, 4.04 ERA), as they will try to end a three game losing streak. San Diego is currently in fourth place in the National League West, 7.5 games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers. Miami is in fourth place in the National League East, 13 games behind the first place Washington Nationals.
