The Los Angeles Angels fell short to the Oakland Athletics this past afternoon. Angels starting pitcher for today Drew Rucinski (2-1, 2.60 ERA, 6.0 IP) (L) lost to the Athletics Jesse Chavez (3-0, 3.27 ERA 6.0 IP) (W) as he was on point for Oakland. It was during the top of the first inning when C.J. Cron hit an RBI double for the Angels with two outs.
This unfortunately was the only run scored for the Los Angeles Angels as it can be seen above in the video link.Though the Angels were the first to score, the Athletics answered in the bottom of the third inning. Billy Burns brought in Eric Sogard to score with an RBI single to left field. The Athletics continued to take the lead as Mark Canha hit the go-ahead home run for a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Rucinski gave up his third run of the day as J.P. Sportman homered while the Athletics looked to finish with a win.
The final run scored of the contest was from a ground out to Angels first baseman Michael Snyder by Anthony Aliotti. J.P. Sportman scored as the final here was 4-1 Oakland. Athletics closer Jeff Urlaub (0-0, 0.00 ERA) earned the save, as the Angels won’t have to worry about playing a divisional opponent until the regular season. The Angels will host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Angel Stadium tomorrow night at 7:05 PM in the first game of the weekend series.
