In the final game of their weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Padres lose 6-4. Arizona uses the long ball to score all their runs and they avoid the sweep. San Diego got on the board first, on a leadoff homer by Matt Kemp, who gave up his usual cleanup spot in the order, to bat first.
Diamondbacks Catcher Wellington Castillo connected in the top of the second inning for a 3 run homer, which gave Arizona a lead that they never gave back. David Peralta and Jake Lamb also homered to complete the scoring. Arizona starter Brett Anderson (4-2) went seven innings for the win, and he gave up three home runs, including a pair to Derek Norris, a two run shot in the fourth inning and a solo shot in the sixth inning. Odrisamer Despaigne (3-6) took the loss for San Diego and he gave up five of the Diamondbacks six runs.
The win helped the Arizona (36-39), leap over San Diego (37-41) into third place in the National League West. Arizona is 6 games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers, the Padres are now 6.5 games back. San Diego will start an inter league series on Monday, at home against the Seattle Mariners.
