RECAP: Angels Win Over Orioles, 8-4

The Los Angeles Angels opened up a three game weekend series with the Baltimore Orioles in style, with a 8-4 win.

Mike Trout celebrated his 24th birthday, with a homer, as the fans sang “Happy Birthday” to the young superstar.

Trout’s homer in the bottom of the first inning, opened up the scoring, as he laughed one to center field. The Orioles managed to grab the lead in the third and added another run in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth inning, DH David Murphy got the Angels closer, delivering a single to left, that scoring Trout from third. Chris Giavotella, doubled in Conor Gillaspie with the game tying run.

Baltimore took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning, on a homer run by Catcher Matt Wieters, but the Orioles couldn’t produce anymore runs for the remainder of this game. In the bottom of the sixth, The Angels took back the lead for good. The final runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning, on a C.J. Cron, two-run homer, which he just simply smashed to deep left center field, to end the scoring at 8-4.

Angels starter, Andrew Heaney,(5-1), went 5-2/3 innings and allowed 10 hits and two runs on 85 pitches. Fernando Salas, (2-1), picked up the win in relief. Orioles starter Kevin Gausman,(2-3), took the loss for Baltimore Orioles.

The two teams will meet in game two, in a 6:05 PST start time, back at the “Big A.” The Angels will send Garrett Richards,(11-8, 3.46 ERA), to the mound to face the Orioles Ubaldo Jimenez,(8-7, 4.04 ERA).

Los Angeles,(58-50), is 1.5 games out of first place in the American League West, in second place behind the Houston Astros. Baltimore,(55-53), is currently in third place in the American League East, 6 full games behind the first place New York Yankees.
