RECAP: Angels Fall To A’s, 8-7
- Updated: September 30, 2015
The Los Angeles Angels closed out their regular season with a home loss to the Oakland Athletics, in a back and forth battle 8-7, ending the team’s seven game winning streak.
The Angels had the momentum as the opportunities slipped away from them. The defensive play was below average, as the team committed four errors.
Mike Trout started the scoring with his 41st homer of the season, to deep center field. David Freese launched his 14th of the season, in the bottom of the fourth inning, to pull the team closer, at 3-2. Los Angeles took the lead back from the A’s in the bottom of the sixth, on a homer from Johnny Giavotella and a RBI double off the bat of Kole Calhoun, giving the Angels a two-run lead at 5-3.
Oakland battled back and took the lead for good in the seventh inning. The Angels made the game interesting in the late innings, after home runs by Carlos Perez in the eight inning and Calhoun in the bottom of the ninth but the Angels still fell short at the end. Angels starter, Garrett Richards managed to get through six innings, only giving up three runs on two hits and striking out seven but was not able to pick up his 16th win of the season.
NEXT UP FOR THE ANGELS:
The team wrapped up their final game at the “Big A,” the record stands at 49-32, which is the second best home record in the division. The big showdown will start tomorrow, as they head to Texas for the final four games of the season. Andrew Heaney (6-3, 3.29 ERA), will face Derek Holland (3-3, 4.99 ERA), in game one of the series.
Now this race in the American League West is coming down to the wire. Los Angeles (83-75) and the Houston Astros are tied for second in the West, three games behind the Texas Rangers and both teams are deadlocked for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.
