RECAP: Angels 8, Oakland 1

Nick Tropeano (W,3-2), was just what the Los Angeles Angels needed last night, as they defeated the Oakland A’s, 8-1. Tropeano struck out a season high eleven in 6 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on three hits.
Albert Pujois and Erick Aybar led the charge, as Pujois added three hits and scoring three times. Aybar collected two key hits with a double and a triple which drove in three runs.
Oakland starter Chris Bassitt (L,1-8), did not get a chance to make it out of the fourth inning, as the Angels managed to put up six runs before his departure. The Angels feasted on a two very interesting stats, five players managed to get two-out RBI’s, led by David Freese and Erick Aybar. The Angels also cashed in on the opportunities with runners in scoring position, going 6 for 16. Mat Latos spotting, Latos, the former Dodger made his debut with the Angels last night in relief, as he completed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, on 23 pitches.

The team looked great, as they picked up their seventh straight win. The Angels will take on the A’s in their final meeting of the season tonight at the “Big A,” in the final regular season home game. Los Angeles (83-74), will send Garrett Richards (15-11, 3.73 ERA), will face Oakland’s Barry Zito (0-0, 18.00 ERA) in the final game of this series.
The Angels are currently in second place, two games behind Texas in the American League West and they are holding on to the final American League Wild Card spot, with just a half game lead over the Houston Astros.
