RECAP: Angels 7, Diamondbacks 1

A five-run sixth inning pushed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ahead for good and allowed them to coast past the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon, winning 7-1 at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The Angels opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, when Taylor Featherston and Johnny Giavotella each hit solo home runs to make it a 2-0 game off the Dbacks and starter Allen Webster.

C.J. Wilson was nails for the Angels, allowing only one Diamondback run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nick Ahmed hit an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game, though that was as close as the Dbacks would get on this day.

The Angels blew the game open in the top of the sixth inning, first when Mike Trout hit an RBI triple, and then when Efren Navarro hit a two-RBI single, and Carlos Perez hit a two-RBI double — each off Josh Collmenter in relief — to put the Angels up 7-1.

That was the way the game ended, with Wilson lasting eight innings and allowing only the one run on eight hits and no walks, while striking out nine Dbacks hitters.

The win now pushes the Angels above .500 at 34-33, and is the last time they will play an interleague series for several weeks.
