RECAP: Angels 2, Mariners 0

A day after the Los Angeles Angels hitters were utterly dominated by Felix Hernandez, Angels starter C.J. Wilson exacted revenge on the Seattle Mariners, tossing eight innings in a 2-0 Halos victory Tuesday night.

Wilson (1-0) was the story of the game, allowing just two hits and one walk – against two strikeouts and thirteen groundouts – in eight innings of work. Wilson threw 96 pitches, 63 of which for strikes, in the Angels victory to bring the team to 1-1 in the early going this year.

Huston Street tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts of his own to pick up his first save of the year, as well.

At the plate, David Freese drove in two runs on a fourth inning home run off Seattle starting pitcher James Paxton that proved to be the only runs of the game.

Paxton was good, but not good enough, on this day; he tossed six innings and allowed just four hit and a walk against five strikeouts, on 87 pitches.

Between Wilson, Street, and Paxton and the Mariners relievers, batters combined for just seven hits and two walks the entire game on Tuesday night at Safeco Field.

In addition to Freese, Erick Aybar, Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols collected hits, but only Pujols would come around to score when Freese drove him in with his fourth-inning dinger.

Both teams play in Seattle again tomorrow before the Angels leave town to open the season in Anaheim against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
