After giving up five first inning runs, the Los Angeles Angels scored six in the top of the second inning, and went on to win a crazy, back-and-forth, 11-8 game over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night at Target Field.

Hector Santiago started for the Angels and never made it out of the first inning, giving up five runs on five hits and a walk while only recording two outs, before being replaced by Mike Morin.

The Angels would respond, though, and they scored six runs in the top of the second inning against Tommy Milone, highlighted by Mike Trout‘s grand slam off the reliever in for Milone, making the game 6-5 in favor of the Angels.

The Angels scored two more runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-5 lead, when Taylor Featherston hit a two-run blast that scored Shane Victorino.

After Minnesota scored a run in the bottom of the third inning, Trout struck again, this time with a solo home run that made the game 9-6 halfway through the fourth inning.

The clubs went back and forth the rest of the night, each one scoring two more runs in the game, though of course the Twins never got close enough to tie the game again, and the Angels won 11-8 after Chris Iannetta hit a seventh inning home run.

Morin picked up the win in relief, while Huston Street earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning to give the Angels (74-72) the win in the first game of the four-game series at Target Field. Both teams will meet up again on Friday night for game two.
