The Los Angeles Dodgers opened up a brief Inter-league series with the Oakland Athletics, with a 2-0 loss. Earlier in the day, the Athletics, traded their closer Tyler Clippard to the New York Mets, so there was no bullpen help and the task was left up to Gray.

Athletics starter Sonny Gray,(11-4), was basically shutdown and shutout the Dodgers offense, only allowing three hits. Gray used 110 pitches to strikeout 9 Dodgers batters, for the complete game shutout. Brett Anderson,(5-6), who was making the start after returned from a brief injury, took the loss.

Oakland took the lead in the first inning, on a ground out to third by A’s first baseman Billy Butler, that scored center fielder Billy Burns. The A’s scored their second and final run in the top of the seventh inning, on a solo shot to right center field by Josh Reddick, his 13th of the season.

The two teams will wrap up the mini-series tonight, when the Dodgers,(56-45), will try to end a three game losing streak. Clayton Kershaw,(8-6, 2.51 ERA), will take the mound, as he will be looking to improve on his scoreless innings streak, which is currently at 29 innings. Oakland,(45-56), will send Jesse Chavez,(5-10, 3.45 ERA), as the A’s will try to sweep the series.

The loss was not devastating, the Dodgers still holds a 0.5 game lead over the San Francisco Giants,in the National League West, who also lost last evening. Oakland remains in last place in the American League East, 11 full games behind the Angels and Astros, who both share the division lead.
