Rapid Recap: Dodgers 9, Rockies 8

Last night the Los Angeles Dodgers split the double-header of the series between the Colorado Rockies. Though the Dodgers lost the first game of the day and looked like they were going to lose again, the lineup managed to find its form late. This second game headlined with pitchers Zack Greinke (5-1, 1.97 ERA, 6.0 IP, 2 K’s, 5 ER) facing David Hale (1-0, 4.26 ERA, 6.0 IP, 5 K’s, 4 ER)

At the top of the first inning second baseman Enrique Hernandez hit a home run to right field of (416 ft). When the third inning came around Joc Pederson hit his sixteenth home run of the season and his second of the day as he homered in both games against the Colorado Rockies. By the end of the third inning Adrian Gonzalez hit his eleventh homer of the year with it being a two-run shot to right center field. The Dodgers lead 4-0 at the end of the third inning.

The Colorado Rockies did show up in the second game. They managed to score two runs in the bottom of the third inning as it was 4-2 Los Angeles. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Rockies regained the lead at 5-4 as Zack Greinke was to be relieved by Yimi Garcia (0.1 IP , 2 ER).  In the top of the seventh inning Joc Pederson hit his first career RBI triple as Jimmy Rollins scored to tie the game at 5-5.

Dodgers reliever Yimi Garcia gave the lead back to Colorado as short stop Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer to center field which put the Rockies up 7-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning the Rockies scored one more run as it was 8-5 Colorado. But in the top of the ninth inning with the bases loaded and a 1-2 count, Alex Guerrero was the hero of the day for the Dodgers. Guerrero hit his first career grand-slam which ultimately gave the Dodgers a 9-8 lead and win. Below he can be seen celebrating home plate with his teammates.

Relief pitcher Josh Ravin (1-0, 1 K) (W) was awarded the win as Rafael Betancourt (2-2, 5.21 ERA) (L) was the loser. Kenley Jansen picked up his fifth save of the season. Tonight on ESPN at 5:00 PM PT this series will conclude. Dodgers pitcher Mike Bolsinger (3-1, 1.15 ERA) will face Chad Bettis (2-0, 2.96) in the series finale between these two ball clubs.
