Rams Week 2 Recap
- Updated: September 24, 2019
After pulling out a win on the road last week, the Rams were greeted with an NFC Championship rematch. The Rams returned to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to play the Saints. With two high powered offenses, this game could have been one of the highest-scoring contests of the year. Unfortunately, due to a key injury, the game lost some significant star power midway through the first quarter. On the Saints second drive of the game, Drew Brees attempted to throw a pass, and in the process, he made contact with Aaron Donald. As a result, Brees left the game with a hand injury and did not return. The Saints announced Brees suffered a torn ligament in his hand and would miss six to eight weeks.
As for Los Angeles, they continued with business as usual. The Rams offense started off slow, as they were only able to score six points in the first half of the game. Going into halftime, the Rams led the Saints 6-3. The six points came from a couple of field goals by Greg Zuerlein. However, in the second half, the Rams offense broke through with fourteen points in the third quarter and seven more points in the fourth quarter. Todd Gurley rushed for a touchdown. Jared Goff also rushed for a touchdown. Goff also connected with Brandin Cooks on a touchdown pass. Noticeably, the Los Angeles offense has not quite clicked yet. However, the Rams have started the season by scoring 57 points. When the offense starts firing on all cylinders, the Rams are going to be an absolute force.
As for the defense, they look even better than last year. Even with the injury to Brees, the Los Angeles defense did not allow a touchdown on Sunday. The Saints could only muster a field goal in the first half, and two field goals in the second half. If the defense can continue to play like they have the last couple of weeks, they could end up with the number one seed in the NFC. Hopefully, the Rams can stay healthy going forward. With the numerous injuries throughout the NFL right now, health has to be a major priority.
Next week, Los Angeles will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns for Sunday Night Football. The Rams are 2-0, and the Browns are 1-1. Traveling on the road will provide a challenge for the Rams, but if anyone can get them prepared, it is Coach McVay.
