The Los Angeles Rams first half may have been the most eventful in the NFL. Through eight weeks, the Rams currently sit at 5-3, and they are third in the NFC West. This first half included a three game winning streak, a three game losing streak, and a successful trip to London. In addition to some eventful games, the Rams parted ways with some notable names, trading away Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. However, the Rams also brought in Jalen Ramsey from Jacksonville to bolster their defense.
Obviously, the Rams would like to have a better record, but there have been numerous bright spots on this team up to this point. Jared Goff is leading the league in passing heading into the bye week. Overall, the Rams have a top ten offense in the league. Through eight weeks, the Rams have averaged over twenty six points per game. If the Rams can continue their high powered offense, their season should continue past December. Aaron Donald has done everything he can possibly do defensively for the Rams. Opposing teams have doubled up, and at times tripled up on Donald which has resulted in other defensive players getting an opportunity. Clay Matthews and Dante Fowler Jr. have combined for 12.5 sacks on the season.
While the offense has been strong this year, the defense has taken a hit compared to last year. The Rams defense is fifteenth overall in opponent points per game. The real dark spot on the season has to be when Tampa Bay walked into Los Angeles and scored fifty five point in the Coliseum. With the acquisition of Ramsey, and Clay Matthews set to return from a fractured jaw soon, expect the defense to improve for the second half. If the defense does improve, the Rams can still make a push for the division.
