Puig’s Hustle Leads To Dodgers Victory

@SN_Baseball

In just his second game back, Yasiel Puig brought back the electricity the Dodgers sorely needed. After Howie Kendrick singled with one out Puig hit a single up the middle but never stopped running.

Nationals centerfielder Michael Taylor in pursuit overran the ball and the relatively sleepy crowd rose to life as Puig touched them all to give Los Angeles the 4-3 win on a little league walkoff.

“I’m just excited,” Puig said. “I haven’t had a walk-off like that in a year and a half. I’m just glad I helped my team win today.”

The Dodgers had been monitoring Puig’s health in the past couple of days, but manager Dave Roberts like what he saw after the game.

“That was the final test was if his legs were healthy,” Roberts said. “He passed the final test going around the bases. That was a crazy game. It was fun.”

The Dodgers skipper meanwhile before Puig’s at bat was gazing into the outfield, before Puig gave his team it’s sixth win in a row.

That was the last thing I thought was going to happen,” Roberts said with a laugh. “All of a sudden I hear the crowd yelling, the dugout started to yell and the next thing you know he scored.”

The 19-year-old Julio Urias continued his progression as a starter as well going five innings while allowing only two earned runs and striking out six.

For Taylor it was a nightmare game and a day he would like to forget. Besides allowing the game winning runs, he struck out in all five of his at-bats.

Despite the Dodgers sixth win in a row, the Giants have continued roll beating the Pirates for the second night in a row 7-6. San Francisco has won 10 of its last 11 games and whole the lead in the NL West by five in a half games.
