Prospect Watch: Shortstop Corey Seager
- Updated: March 29, 2016
The number one overall prospect ranked in the MLB pipeline this year was none other than Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager. Though as of recently he had a sprained knee in spring training he should be ready to go by Opening Day.
Last season Seager made (113) plate appearances and (98) at bats in (27) games. Even more impressive were his stats from the 2015 season. Seager earned a batting average of (.337) On-base percentage of (.425) and a slugging percentage of (.561)
In the (27) games he played late last season after making his MLB debut he had (4) home runs and (17) RBI’s. He also helped the Dodgers win a third consecutive National League West Divisional title. Though the Dodgers lost to New York Mets in the NLDS, he gained valuable postseason experience.
Next week the Dodgers will travel down to Petco Park to face the San Diego Padres. Seager should be projected to be in the lineup after resting his sprained knee. With all the potential being ranked the number on prospect, he could be in the running for the National League Rookie of the year award. A lot of baseball is to still be played but he has all the tools to put it together.
