Power Padres Complete Sweep
- Updated: June 28, 2019
After a long weekend in Pittsburg, the Padres used all their power to complete a sweep in Baltimore. In the short two-game series with Baltimore, the Padres hit nine home runs. San Diego would go to hit four home runs in game one, and five in game two. San Diego would outscore the Orioles 18-8. As a result of the sweep, the Padres are back at a .500 record. In 80 games this year, San Diego is 40-40. to put this into perspective, last year, San Diego was 35-45 at this point in the season. Without question, the Padres have relied on the long ball. This series was no different. With all the home runs San Diego can hit, they potentially have two players who could secure a spot in the home run derby.
The power surged for San Diego have found themselves just a couple games out of the second wildcard spot in the National League. If San Diego can continue to power their way past teams in the second half, the Padres could end a decade long postseason drought. As for right now, San Diego has just over a month to find an ace. They also have a log jam in the outfield. Until those moves are made, the current version of 2019 club, is without a doubt the swinging Friars.
