Pirates Walk-Off, Beat Padres 2-1

The Pittsburgh Pirates used a Pedro Alvarez walk-off single to beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Monday night. This marks the 3rd straight loss for the Padres.

James Shields got the start for the Padres. He pitched 7 innings allowing 2 hits o earned runs. He struck out 3 and walked 1 as he was awarded the no decision.

On the other hand, A.J Burnett got the start for the Pirates. Ge pitched 7.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run. He struck out 4 and walked 3 as was also awarded  no decision.

The Padres struck first in the 2nd inning. Alexi Amarista hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Yonder Alonso and gave the Padres a 1-0 lead. This was the only run of the game for the Frias Faithful.

It wouldn’t be until the 7th inning that the Pirates were able to get on the scoreboard. Alvarez was able to make it to first on a throwing error by Yangervis Solarte that allowed Andrew McCutchen to score. This tied the game at 1-1.

In the 9th inning with the game tied at 1-1 the Frias sent Brandon Maurer to the hill to try and force extra innings. Alvarez had other ideas as he hit a single to right that brought in McCutchen and the Pirates won in walk-off fashion.

The Frias and Bucs will square off again tomorrow night at 4:05 p.m. PST.
