Phillies Name Matt Klentak General Manager

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe the Philadelphia Phillies have hired former Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim assistant general manager Matt Klentak as their GM.

Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reported that Klentak basically took over the duties as the GM after Jerry Dipoto resigned.

Klentak played college baseball at Dartmouth College in Massachusetts where he majored in economics. After graduation he landed a internship with the Colorado Rockies baseball operations department.

After the season he landed a job with the MLB’s major relations headquarters. He was instrumental in negotiating the Collective Bargaining agreement in 2006.

Klentak economics background is a weapon he will use for baseball analytics. He takes over a job that will be a long way to contention but he is well qualified and equipped for the job.

Angels fans thank you Matt Klentak for everything you did to help the Angels organization over the last few years. You will be missed. Congratulations on your new job in Philly!
