Paul, Redick Struggle As Warriors Coast 114-98

Paul

The Golden State Warriors are on the brink of a historic season in Oracle Arena as they have yet to lose at home this year. The Los Angeles Clippers have been on the other end of the success spectrum as of late losing four of their last five coming into the game Wednesday night. Jeff Green would return for Los Angeles in this one after suffering a concussion against the Pelicans March 19th but he would not be in the starting lineup.

The first half for Los Angeles was all about the bench. Scoring 20 in the first quarter and 27 total in the half, the Clipper bench would be a big reason why the club was able to stay in the game through the half given the struggles of Chris Paul and J.J. Redick. Paul had just 2 points and was 1-7 shooting while Redick was not much better with only 7 points on 3-8 shooting after one half of play. DeAndre Jordan though did not have similar struggles in this one as he seemed to be the only Clipper starter on the ball Wednesday and he certainly wasn’t shying away from his typical monster jams.

Jordan would help the Clippers keep it close with the solid bench as Los Angeles trailed 51-49 at the end of the half.

The second half was when the game started to go the way of Golden State. A huge run to start the third along with an untimely cold shooting stretch from the Clippers helped them grow their lead to as many as 13. Los Angeles never seemed to cut into that lead despite having some scoring runs that trimmed it down to as little as 7 but they would never get any closer than that. Hot shooting streaks from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson each knocking home 33 and 32 points on the night respectively helped to stall the Clippers comeback plans and win 114-98.

While the Clippers didn’t come out with a win in this one it was a promising game for the team. I’m not typically one for moral victories, but it is important to keep in mind that despite a poor night from Paul and Redick the team was able to stay in this one for the majority of the game. That speaks volumes for what this team can do without the stars playing well and not to mention the absence of one of the teams biggest stars in Blake Griffin.

Los Angeles will try to turn this rough patch around after going 1-4 on their road trip, as they will be facing off against an underwhelming Portland Trailblazers team Thursday night.

A couple of wins and the return of a star player maybe, would help Los Angeles gain some form as the playoffs approach. Time will only tell. Thanks for reading along Clipper fans hopefully things brighten up from here!
