Paul, Jordan fire Clippers past Suns

@LAClippeRRs

Coming off a seven game home stand where Phoenix didn’t win a game, the Clippers could’ve been forgiven for taking the Suns lightly when they met at Staples Center on Monday night however the Clippers led from wire to wire to chalk up their 37th win of the season with a 124-84 win.

The Clippers opened the game on a 21-7 run as the Suns missed 11 of their first 13 field goal attempts. Chris Paul had seven points and six assists in the opening period as all five Clipper starters had a +/- of plus-double digits.

The roles were reversed in the second quarter as it was the Clippers who struggled to find the basket as the Suns reserves, led by Phil Pressey went on a 16-1 run to cut the Clipper lead to six before Paul and DeAndre Jordan were forced to return prematurely. The Clippers took 5:24 to find their first basket in the quarter thanks to a J.J. Redick layup. Before order was restored as the Clippers went on a 16-5 run to end the quarter to lead 59-42 at halftime with Redick leading all scorers with 19 points. Paul was the only other Clipper in double digits with 11 to go with his nine assists.

The Clipper starters picked up from where they left off after half time however it was the DeAndre Jordan post up show (sort of) to open the quarter as he had eight quick points on series of post moves. Offensive order was restored as Redick and Paul drained long balls while the Point God’s dime tally climbed to 14.

No starter would return – with a maximum of 27 minutes (Paul and Jordan) – as the bench would continue to extend the lead in the final term.

Jordan would finish with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while Paul finished with 16 points and 14 assists. Redick finished with 22 points on 4-6 shooting from deep. Jeff Green had a nice showing offensively, getting extended minutes in the final term as he notched up 18 points and five rebounds in his second game as a Clipper while Wesley Johnson had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Clippers will host the Denver Nuggets at Staples Centre on Wednesday night.
