Paul And Clippers Pass By Rockets

Chris Paul

The (42-24) Los Angeles Clippers came to Houston Wednesday night to play the struggling (34-33) Rockets. After a rough loss to San Antonio last game, the Clippers were looking to avoid the team’s first three-game losing streak since before Christmas.

The first quarter showed the team’s fight to improve during this tough stretch of schedule. Chris Paul had 8 assists in 8 minutes, and meanwhile J.J. Redick was….well,

Also I just wouldn’t be doing my duty as a Clippers writer if I didn’t show a clip from at least one throw-down in this one tonight, and there were plenty to choose from. The best though, at least in this writers opinion came in the first.

A nine point lead for Los Angeles after one quarter was followed up by a monster quarter by none other than the Clipper bench in the second. Paul Pierce returned tonight after a multi-game absence and the bench certainly seemed to take notice. Wesley Johnson and Jamal Crawford were knocking in shots from all over the court and it seemed as though Houston just had no answer.

Shooting 64% from the floor and 55% from beyond the arc helped lead the Clippers to a steady 72-50 halftime lead.

Much of the same followed in the second half as Los Angeles was able to maintain that monster lead for the majority of the game until a late rally by Houston that brought them as close as 12. They would never be able to make it any closer than that however as the Clippers held on for the big win 122-106.

This rough patch in the Clipper schedule will continue next game as they will take on the Grizzlies in Memphis Saturday before then traveling to New Orleans Sunday and then Oracle Arena in the bay next Wednesday to round out the road trip saving the toughest for last. The schedule will lighten up slightly when the club returns home but for now staying healthy and rested during this road trip is off to a great start tonight as the starters rested for a majority of the final quarter.

Thanks for reading along Clipper fans, two down, three to go.
