Padres Woes Continue Fall To Pirates 5-2

The San Diego Padres struggles continued as the Pittsburgh Pirates were able to complete the sweep beating the Frias 5-2. This marks 5 losses in a row for the Padres.
Andrew Cashner got the start for the Padres. He pitched 7.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 runs. He did strike out 5 and walk 2 as he picked up the loss.
On the side Charlie Morton got the start for the Pirates. He pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 4 and was awarded the no decision.
The Padres got on the board in the 1st inning thanks the Matt Kemp. Kemp hit his 7th home run of the year a solo shot, that gave the Padres a 1-0 lead.
In the 2nd inning Melvin Upton hit a RBI double to deep center field that brought in Will Venable. This gave the Padres a 2-0 advantage and hope that they could end the losing streak.
That was the only runs the Padres scored tonight however. Pedro Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning that brought in Jung Ho Kang.
With the Padres up 2-1 in the 7th inning the Pirates looked to even the score. Francisco Cervelli reached on a fielder’s choice that brought in Neil Walker and tied the game at 2-2.
The 8th inning was the inning that doomed the Padres. Gregory Polanco hit a RBI single that brought in Travis Ishikawa. All-Star Andrew McCutchen followed with a RBI single, and Kang followed with one of his own that gave the Pirates a 5-2 lead and victory.
The Padres will have a much needed day off tomorrow before they take on the Texas Rangers in Texas on Friday. Odrisamer Despaigne and Chi Chi Gonzalez will face off against each other at 5:05 p.m. PST.
