Padres Use Power To Beat Rockies 6-3

The San Diego Padres used power to beat the Colorado Rockies 6-3 on Tuesday night. San Diego has won two in a row to open up this series and will look for the sweep tonight.

For San Diego Andrew Cashner got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs to go along with 6 strikeouts. He was awarded his second win of the season.

On the other side Eddie Butler got the start. He pitched 5.2 innings allowing 4 hits and 5 runs. He struck out 3 batters and picked up his first loss of the season.

Colorado jumped out to an early lead when Charlie Blackmon hit a solo shot to right field. It was his first homerun of the year and gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead.

Mark Reynolds followed with a sacrifice fly later in the inning that brought in Trevor Story and after the first inning the Rockies led 2-0.

In the second inning Story hit a RBI single that brought in D.J. LeMahieu and the Rockies led 3-0.

It was Matt Kemp who woke up the Padres offense in the 4th inning. Kemp hit a solo shot to left center to put the Padres on the board. It was his 8th home run of the year. Brett Wallace followed with a home run of his own, a solo shot that was hit 1st bomb of the year and San Diego cut the lead to 3-2.

Wil Myers hit a RBI double in the 6th inning that brought in Jon Jay. Wallace followed with a RBI double of his own to bring in Myers that gave San Diego the lead. Alexei Ramirez  hit a RBI single to center that brought in Adam Rosales.

Myers hit a RBI single in the 7th inning that brought in Jay and the Padres held a 6-3 advantage. Fernando Rodney came on in the 9th inning and shut the club down and picked up his 6th save of the year.

San Diego will go for the sweep when they square off against the Rockies again tonight.
