7.5 million is the amount the Padres will pay to the Cardinals. Gyorko still has a deal he signed for six years 35 million. It was also reported from Fox Sports MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal the amount St. Louis will absorb roughly 26 million of the remaining contract.
Clarification: Gyorko owed $33M. #STLCards taking on $26M. Not including Jay’s salary, #Padres save nearly $20M over next four years. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 8, 2015
The Padres ensure an outfielder as Justin Upton Jr rejected the one-year qualifying offer. Jon Jay played the last six seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals. Jay has a career batting average of (.287) with (29) career home runs and (229) RBIs.
St. Louis acquires infielder Jedd Gyorko whose career batting average is (.236) to go with (171) RBIs and (49) home runs. Gyorko is only 27 which makes the deal interesting for both teams.
