Padres Top Rockies 4-3
- Updated: August 23, 2018
On Tuesday night, the Padres began a seven-game road trip, starting in Colorado. Starting pitcher Robbie Erlin lasted five innings, giving up three runs. From there on, the bullpen would pitch the remainder of the game. After an off day on Monday, the bullpen returned to form, pitching four scoreless innings. The game ended after Kirby Yates closed out the ninth, facing the minimum.
As for the offense, the Padres edged the Rockies to secure the win. Eric Hosmer got the offense going with a two-run homer in the first inning. In addition to Hosmer, shortstop Freddy Galvis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. The deciding run, however, came from catcher Austin Hedges as he also hit a home run. San Diego drove in runs when they needed to, and as a result, they affected the standings. The Padres have a chance to play major spoilers for the remainder of this year, given the number of games against NL West opponents left.
Up next for San Diego, the Padres will continue their three-game series with the Rockies on Wednesday. As August pushes comes to a close, keep an eye out for the Padres as they could make a waiver deal before the deadline. If San Diego can make a deal, then we could see a top prospect receive a promotion to the big league club.
