Padres Take Game 1, Beat Phillies 10-2

On Saturday, the San Diego Padres snapped their 6-game losing streak. They did so by manufacturing ten runs on fifteen hits. San Diego’s right fielder Hunter Renfroe had three hits, drove in, and scored a run. Another offensive hero was Freddy Galvis, who had a homecoming performance with three hits, knocked in two runs, and scored a run. Wil Myers slugged his ninth home run as he continues to hit well since coming off the disabled list. Center fielder Travis Jankowski had a pair of runs batted in, and first baseman Eric Hosmer collected two hits.

The 10-2 victory was an all-around team effort as starting pitcher Tyson Ross went five innings. Ross gave up two earned runs, walked three, and struck out five. The remainder of the game taken care of by San Diego’s bullpen. Reliever Matt Strahm went two scoreless innings, including getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning. Following Strahm, was reliever Craig Stammen, who also pitched a scoreless inning. The last inning fell to reliever Colten Brewer, as he pitched a scoreless inning.

Up next for San Diego, they will play the second game of the double header against Philadelphia. San Diego will send to the mound right-handed starting pitcher Luis Perdomo. If the Padres can sweep the double header, they will take a series from the first place Philadelphia Phillies.
