- Updated: May 23, 2019
For the first time in six years, the San Diego Padres swept the Arizona Diamondbacks. On Wednesday afternoon, San Diego concluded their homestand with a 5-2 victory over Arizona. As a result of the sweep, San Diego finished the homestand 4-3. San Diego has passed Arizona in the standings, and they are now in second place in the National League West. As it stands, only the Padres and Dodgers own winning records in that division.
As for the series with Arizona, San Diego pressed all the right buttons. Timely hitting, some terrific starting pitching, and a lockdown bullpen all played a part in this series. During the course of these games, San Diego outscored Arizona 10-5. Due to the Padres winning this series, this is the second consecutive series San Diego has taken from Arizona. The next time these two teams meet will be in September, where they will face each other nine times. As for now, the Padres are leading the season series against Arizona 7-3.
Next, up for the Padres, they travel to Toronto to start a three-game series with the Blue Jays. After a brief stint in Canada, the San Diego will travel to New York to face the Yankees. As for Thursday however, San Diego will have an off day. San Diego will be tested on this next road trip, but they will have some momentum on their side going forward.
