Padres Slam Brewers 11-5

On Tuesday afternoon, the Padres offense scored double-digit runs for the second time in two games. Following their 10-6 win on Sunday, San Diego would break out the bats again, scoring eleven runs. While the offense clicked, the pitching did not fair as well. Starting pitcher Clayton Richard allowed five earned runs over five innings pitched. From there on out, the bullpen would pitch the remainder of the game. Reliever Phil Maton pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning. Matt Strahm would follow in getting the last out in the sixth, and eventually, pick up the win. After the sixth, Craig Stammen would go on to pitch a scoreless seventh. Robert Stock followed and threw a scoreless frame as well. The last inning went to San Diego’s newest reliever Trey Wingenter. The young right-hander went on to pitch a perfect inning, thus securing the win for San Diego.

As nice as the bullpen was, the bigger story was the offense. Center fielder Manuel Margot collected five runs batted in. Left fielder Franmil Reyes knocked in three runs, as he continues to impress. The last couple runs came from right fielder Hunter Renfroe when he hit a two-run homer in the eighth. In total, the Padres outfield drove in ten runs on eight hits. Each outfielder hit a home run in the game.

Up next for San Diego, the Padres will continue their three-game series in Milwaukee. The Padres will send the mound newly called up Brett Kennedy. This will be Kennedy’s first start in the majors. If San Diego wins on Wednesday, then it will be their first series win since early June.
