Padres Second Half Slump
- Updated: July 28, 2019
The San Diego Padres have started off the second half in the worst possible way. After walking into Los Angeles and taking a series from the Dodgers, the Padres have completely dropped off. Since the All-Star break, San Diego is 3-9. They have not won a series in the second half. After losing three straight games to the Braves, the Padres would go on to start a nine-game road trip. San Diego would end up losing a series to the Marlins, Cubs, and Mets. The Padres finished their road trip with a 3-6 record.
Due to San Diego’s recent skid, the Padres have now fallen six games below .500. On top of everything else, San Diego will now host the red hot San Francisco Giants. Over the past three weeks, the Giants have won seventeen games, and jumped into second place in the National League West. As a result of the slow second-half start, the Padres will now look at the trade dealing with the 2019 season out of the question. San Diego has a handful of days left to determine their future going forward.
However, San Diego is not writing themselves off just yet. They have called up three young hard-throwing relievers as well as their highest-rated infield prospect. For the first time in about ten years, San Diego is just as capable of buying, as they are selling. If San Diego can get the front lane ace they have been looking for, they can completely change the complexion of the 2019 season.
