Padres Looking For Draft Status

The San Diego Padres have ultimately gone through a tough year. With one week remaining in the regular season, the Padres are one of the worst teams in baseball. However, due to a couple other teams who are historically awful this season, San Diego could end up with the third pick in next year’s draft. Last year, the Padres had the third pick in the draft. This year, they had the seventh pick in the draft. Both of their first-round selections are currently top prospects in the Padres farm system. After a couple of high draft picks, and a number of trades the club has the number one farm system in baseball. If San Diesecuresre the third pick in the draft next year, the rich will only get richer.

As good as it sounds for San Diego, there is one problem. There are also two other teams with similar records. Currently, the Padres have 62 wins. Miami also has 62 wins, and the Chicago White Sox have 61 wins. San Diego does have six games left to play, which will dictate the draft next year. After a rough series with the Dodgers, the club has three games with San Francisco, and Arizona respectively. Obviously, San Diego has struggled with those teams, and if the trend continues, they will secure the third overall pick in 2019.
