Padres Head Into All-Star Break On a High Note Beat Rangers 2-1

The San Diego Padres wrapped up their first half of the season on a high note as they beat the Rangers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. This was the last game before the All-Star break so the Padres have something to finally smile about after their tough stretch.

Tyson Ross got the start for the Padres. He pitched 6.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 0 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 2 as he picked up his 6th win of the season. He threw 98 pitches, 66 for strikes in his outing.

On the other hand Yovani Gallardo got the start for the Rangers. He pitched 5.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run. He struck out 3 and walked 4. He picked up his 8th loss of the season.

The Padres got on the board first in the 2nd inning. Will Middlebrooks reached on a fielder’s choice and brought in Will Venable. This gave the Padres a 1-0 lead after 2 innings.

In the 7th inning Jedd Gyorko hit a RBI single that brought in Justin Upton and the Padres led 2-0.

The Rangers pushed their only run of the game in the 9th inning. Rougned Odor hit a RBI single to center that brought in Adrian Beltre and the Padres held on to win 2-1.

The Padres will head into the All-Star break with a record of 41-49. The Padres will travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies on Friday.
