Padres Fall 5-1 To Phillies

On Saturday evening, the Padres were held in order. The Phillies showed why they were one of the best teams in the east. San Diego starting pitcher Walker Lockett did not make it past the fifth inning. Lockett finished the night on four and one-third innings, giving up a total of five earned runs. As a result of the rough start, the bullpen had to pitch the remainder of the game. A bright spot for San Diego came from the bullpen as a whole, as they held Philadelphia scoreless for the rest of the game. Due to the short start, the Padres will need their starter to eat some innings on Sunday.

After some big games offensively recently, the Padres have cooled off a bit. San Diego only scored one run in the game. The lone run scored off of a sacrifice fly from center fielder Manuel Margot. In general San Diego could have made this a close ballgame. San Diego left too many men in scoring position, and as a result, set the tone of the game.

Up next for San Diego, the Padres will conclude their series with the Phillies as they will send to the mound Joey Lucchesi. Lucchesi is 5-6, with a 3.70 earned run average this season. In the event the Padres will tomorrow, they will have won back to back series for the first time since early June.
