Padres Eliminated From Postseason Contention

San Diego’s unfortunate streak continued this year. The Padres will miss the playoffs again this year. As a result of this, the streak of missing postseason play will reach 12 years. Due to the streak starting in 2007, the Padres streak is the third-longest active streak in the majors. As any San Diego sports fan knows, the playoff history for the Padres is quite limited. Due to poor performance for a majority of years, San Diego has only 13 winning seasons. Of those 13 winning seasons, the Padres have just 5 playoff appearances. The 5 playoff appearances come as a result of 5 division titles.  The five division titles have led to some greater success, however, as San Diego does have 2 National League pennants.

San Diego had a 15-year streak, starting from 1969-1983 before they went to the World Series in 1984, and lost to the Detroit Tigers. After their first playoff birth, the Padres had another streak follow from 1985-1995 as that streak lasted 11 years. The Padres would find some winning ways as they won the division in 1996 and won a pennant in 1998. San Diego would see another streak, unfortunately, as the next streak started immediately from 1999-2004 lasting 6 years. Finally, after back to back division titles the next and current streak would follow, as San Diego has not advanced to the postseason since. Hopefully, in the coming years, San Diego’s young core can take them back to the promise land.
