Padres Drop Their Fourth Straight Game
- Updated: April 19, 2019
San Diego has returned to planet Earth this week. After starting the season 11-5, the Padres have lost their fourth consecutive game. Due to the losing streak, San Diego now has a negative run differential. The Padres have a number of players right now who are currently off to a slow start. The right side of the Padres infield has not been impactful so far. Another factor for the Padres losing streak is the leadoff spot. The lack of production out of the leadoff spot has to be disappointing to see. However, it should not come as a surprise. With as many young players as the Padres have, there is going to be some struggles. Hopefully, as the season goes on, the offense will improve.
As for the pitching, the quality of work has exceeded expectations. the only problem with the pitching is the inability to pitch deep into ballgames. As a result, the bullpen has seen quite a bit of action already. San Diego closer Kirby Yates has 9 saves this year, which is leading all of Major League Baseball right now. If the rotation continues to have short outings, the quality of the bullpen is going to decline to the number of innings.
San Diego will attempt to snap their losing streak tomorrow against Cincinnati. Although the Padres lost the first game of the series, there is still a chance to win the series, if they can win the next 3 games. San Diego is a young team, but they have the ability to accomplish some great feats this season.
