Padres Drop Series Finale To Mets

On Wednesday afternoon, the Padres lost the third and final game of the series to the Mets 6-4.  San Diego’s starting pitcher Clayton Richard was perfect through four innings. In the fifth, however, he allowed four earned runs. Then, in the sixth inning, he allowed two more, and could not record an out. The bullpen was great once again for San Diego. Reliever Phil Maton pitched a scoreless inning. In the seventh, Matt Strahm pitched a scoreless frame. Craig Stammen came on in the eighth, and he also pitched a scoreless frame.

Offensively for there were some positives for San Diego. Shortstop Freddy Galvis continued to see the ball well on the road trip as he launched a two-run homer. The other bright spot for the Padres was catcher Austin Hedges as he drove in a pair of runs, including a solo home run. San Diego outhit New York seven to five, but it wasn’t enough to claim the series as the Mets went on to win.

Up next for San Diego, is an off day as they travel home for five games. The homestand will start on Friday when the Arizona Diamondbacks come to town for the weekend. For the series opener, the Padres will send to the mound right-handed pitcher Luis Perdomo.
