Padres Complete Epic Comeback in Ninth

On Thursday afternoon, the Padres may have played the best game of the season. After five innings, the Brewers had a 4-1 lead. In the sixth, shortstop Freddy Galvis hit a home run, making the score a 4-2 game. Both teams would remain scoreless until the ninth. The Padres were able to show off some impressive plate discipline as the first three batters in the inning would reach via a walk. Then, center fielder Travis Jankowski reached on an infield single, bringing in a run in the process. After a fly out from the first baseman Eric Hosmer, left fielder Hunter Renfroe stepped up to the plate. After seeing some tough pitches, Renfroe fell behind in the count. However, with two strikes, Hunter Renfroe would deposit a fastball into the left-field seats, as he hit a go-ahead grand slam. As a result, San Diego would lead 7-4.

Obviously, the offensive star of the game was Hunter Renfroe. The icing on the cake was the next hitter, as Franmil Reyes would follow with a home run. As good as the offense was, the pitching kept San Diego in the game. Starting pitcher Robbie Erlin lasted five innings, giving up four runs, but only two were earned. After Erlin, the San Diego bullpen would go on to pitch four scoreless innings. The win went to reliever Kirby Yates after he pitched a scoreless eighth.

Up next for the Padres, they will travel home as they will start a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. San Diego will send to the mound newly called up Jacob Nix. Nix will be making his major league debut, as the trend of call-ups continues for the Padres.
