Hand is a former second round pick of the Florida Marlins back in the 2008 MLB draft. He has spent his entire MLB career with the Marlins.
Last season he posted a 4-7 record with a 5.30 ERA. He appeared in 38 games starting in 12 of them. Hand will most likely spend some time in Triple-A before getting a chance in the big leagues.
With the moves the Padres are looking to add some pitching depth for this long season.
