NLDS Game 4: Dodgers 3, Mets 1 – Ace in the Hole
- Updated: October 14, 2015
Coming into this game the narratives had been saying “Kershaw can’t pitch in the postseason,” “Kershaw can’t pitch on short rest,” “Kershaw this, Kershaw that,” well, now we can add “Kershaw is clutch” to all those narratives because Clayton Kershaw came up big for 7 innings, striking out 8, and giving up only 3 hits and a single run on a home run to Daniel Murphy.
The Dodgers offense came up with 3 runs in the second inning again, going 2-4 with runners in scoring position. Justin Turner delivered the biggest hit of the night after Adrian Gonzalez flared a singled into center for the first run, he ripped a double down the left field line on a 2-0 pitch and drove in both Howie Kendrick and Adrian Gonzalez after left fielder Yoenis Cespedes bobbled the ball trying to get it in too quickly.
After that, it was lights out for Kershaw, he only gave up two more hits and then surrendered the ball to Chris Hatcher in the 8th inning and after one out and a strikeout, Hatcher gave up a walk to Curtis Granderson and Don Mattingly feeling the urgency of this game went to his closer for the final out of the inning against game 1 hero David Wright.
That’s when the dramatics started, with the count 2-2, Jansen threw a high fastball inside prompting a check swing from Wright and AJ Ellis felt like Wright had foul tipped it but not only did the home plate umpire, and the first base umpire feel like he didn’t even go around, it also wasn’t tipped and on the next pitch Jansen would walk Wright to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs.
Against Daniel Murphy Jansen brought the count 3-2 before getting him to fly out to right field. After a quick top of the 9th, Jansen came in a went right after the first two hitters getting two quick strikeouts before getting Lucas Duda to fly out to center to end this game.
Other notables: A.J. Ellis now has Dodgers record 12 game postseason hitting streak from all the way in 2013. Way to go YayJ
