Derek Fisher returns to the Los Angeles for the first time as a coach as the New York Knicks take on the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. For both sides of celebrated traditions the Knicks and Lakers both find themselves at the bottom of their conference standings. The Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention a few nights ago, the earliest in their franchise’s history.
The Knicks have won just 12 games this season, 4 on the road and they are in full fledged desperation mode. Carmelo Anthony has ended his season early and for good reason. Amar’e Stoudemire contract was bought out, J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert were traded and you make a case that Langston Galloway is the Knicks best player… Who?!
Fisher and Kobe Bryant who 5 championships together in Los Angeles along with Phil Jackson and both are on the opposite side of the fence when it comes to today’s struggles. Not to take anything away from the Lakers, they are coming off a win against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. Jordan Clarkson and Jeremy Lin helped lead the Lakers to a solid victory.
Tonight’s game doesn’t feature any star power what so ever but the Lakers and Knicks will instead be fighting for roster spots. With drastic changes on the horizon, players like Lance Thomas and recently signed Jabari Brown will try to prove their worth in the league.
Lakers and Knicks fans the season is almost over and I don’t think anyone is more ready for that than this two teams.
