Los Angeles Clippers Player Profile: Chris Paul
- Updated: October 16, 2014
Chris Paul 2013-2014 statistics:
19.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, 10.7 assists per game, 2.5 steals per game, 2.3 turnovers per game, .467% field goal percentage, .368 three-point percentage
Los Angeles Clippers’ point guard, Chris Paul, has been consistent as can be ever since he joined the squad in 2011. In each season with the Clippers, Paul has recorded at least 9 assists per game and at least 17 points per game. Paul has been the perfect complement to forward, Blake Griffin.
Last season was the 4th time Paul has recorded an average of 10 assists per game in his impressive career.
So as the evolution of the point guard continues to change the NBA landscape with more favoritism towards athleticism than just being a traditional passing point guard.
Paul continues to do what he does best and that is controlling the flow of the game with his exceptional passing ability. With a great supporting cast in Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Jamal Crawford, Paul is able to control the game the way he feels is necessary to win the game.
While Paul has put up impressive stats in his entire career, Paul still has not advanced far in the playoffs which is something the Clippers surely have the talent to do. The question then becomes, what does Paul need to do in order to bring his Clippers team far into the playoffs and, maybe, a chance for a title?
For Paul, it may be just to be more assertive with the ball. While Paul is considered to be the ideal point guard in the NBA, sometimes it seems like there are offensive possessions where he could take the shot for himself but, instead, will give it up to someone else. It is weird for an all-star point guard to have his only criticism be to take more shots but that is honestly the only thing that could be improved in his game.
Paul led the league in assists per turnover ratio at 4.57 last year meaning Paul is extremely efficient when the ball is in his hands. Chris Paul is arguably is the best point guard in the NBA. But, with little change being done to the Clippers’ roster this offseason, he will still need to keep improving his game in order to bring the Clippers over the hump and chase an NBA championship.
